Either A or B Resource Assignments

I have many Tasks that can be done by one of two people but I don't know
which yet and want to reflect this in the project plan. Ideally I would like
to assign both resources to the tasks at 90% each with an OR flag to let
Project tell me who it recommends to do what ie: assign one or other resource
by changing units% to 0% or 90%. In this way the duration would not be halved
and the milestones dates can be promised with confidence and I can tell the
customer who will be assigned

Again ideally I would like all these tasks to appear in both users My Tasks
view (PWA) so that they can decide on the day who does what and to
potentially share some tasks.

The reality is that these tasks are often worked on an parallel due to
delays from 3rd parties mid task and both reseources will end up reporting
time against all tasks (95/5)

Curently I set the tasks for Fixed Units and Effort driven and I am using
Project Professional 2007 with Project Server 2007

At the moment I am doing a spreadsheet calculation to find a good work split
and then assigning single resources accordingly, unfortunately this all gets
out of whack when priorities and tasks change. Assigning the resources at 45%
each is the other solution but it is not satisfactory either as it prevents
resources being available for other 90% tasks.

Is there a way to achieve what I am looking for?

Mike,

Have you looked into using the Teams functionality? I know you can create
teams and assign the tasks to the team so that the assignment shows up on
each team members My Tasks page until one of the team members begins work on
the task. I have only read a little about this function but it may help you
meet your requirements.

Darrell,

Yes I did try teams as they appeared to offer a solution. Unfortunately they
do not consume resources and I still don't know who is going to be doing
what. Maybe in a later release Microsoft will enhance this feature.
