Old computer Win 98se – Outlook 2000
New computer XP Pro – Outlook 2007

I get the following pop up error message when I start Outlook 2007 and it
continues to pop up every even while I am reading my new Emails

“Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot
fulfil the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it
as the default mail client.â€

These are the steps I have taken

Used the Transfer Wizard from Win 98 to XP Pro (Not a good idea)

Added a new pst

Kept and copied some old messages from 2000 to 2007 deleted rest

Deleted old pst through Options

Set 2007 as default in Outlook and IE 7

Still get error message

Any suggestions

No I Haven't. This is my bosses new computer and he kept all his old emails
and deleted files since 2005. I did remove 2005 & 2006 emails before moving
them but he wants as many of the old ones as possible. I was leaving creating
a new profile as a last resort.

Why, that is the easiest solution. Simply configure the new mail profile to reuse all of the .pst files that are currently configured.

Created a new account still get error message. made new .pst the default,

Did I say anything about accounts? Profiles !=Accounts. Create a new mail profile.

OK created new profile and followed ALL THE instructructions step by step
exactly in the Help file. Also had my ISP provider suggest solutions nothing
worked they are as stumped as I am.

No I did not use old .pst

Still get error message and it keeps poping up even as it receives and sends
Email.

I have the same problem. How do you create a new profile? Everything seems to be working fine, but can't get that error box to stop popping up...

What "same problem" is that? You don't include anything from the thread you
_think_ you're posting to. Bad form.

What error box? What are the exact words it contains? What version of
Outlook? What are you trying to do when the problem occurs?

Sorry - I thought the previous message was included. This is the
message/problem I am talking about:

"I have successfully installed Outlook 2007 and transferred my .pst files. I
have selected Outlook as my default e-mail program in my "default programs"
area of Vista. HOWEVER, I am constantly getting this error message (like
every 2 minutes...!): Either there is no default mail client or the current
mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run microsoft
Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client.

As far as I know, I have done this, in both Outlook mail options, and the
default programs area - in fact I've done both several times. When I go in
to those areas, it does show that Outlook has been selected.

I seem to be able to send and receive e-mail messages, but the error message
is drving me crazy!

files. I have selected Outlook as my default e-mail program in my

State exactly how you attempted this.

Hurray got the solution from Scott on howtogeek.com

Ran Office Diagnostics it did not find anthing wrong but message no longer
pops up.

Funny thing is Office Diagnostics did generate a program error report which
I sent.

I hope i'm entering this question correctly.. I am also getting the "No
Default mail client.." error message. I am using Microsoft Outlook Express
6.0 and running on a Window XP PC. I've been using the Express account for
about a year, with no error message. The error message started showing up
after upgrading from Norton Internet Security 2007 to NIS 2008, and/or
receiving a note from Hotmail about they are upgrading my Hotmail account to
the new Hotmail Live account. I do not use Outlook, I've never set it up so
I don't know why I'm getting the message about Outlook. Norton and Hotmail
both say it's not their fault? Where to now?

Thanks for sharing the solution! I had this problem too and managed to
correct it by simply running the Office Diagnostics utility (which can be
found in the MS Office Tools menu of the Start Menu).

Much appreciated.

Found out I didn't remove Outlook completely. Removed outlook per
Microsoft support and no more error message.
