Eliminate duplicates in mailing list

I have a small mailing list (less than 1000 entries) that I need to
"unduplicate" - but the duplicates have to be matches on several fields.
John Smith at ABC Company is not the same as John Smith at XYZ Company; and
their mailing addresses have to match as well.

I tried to check out the Advanced Filter process, but it didn't seem like
the right solution.

Is there a simple way to do this, or do I just keep sorting and resorting
and eyeballing it? Thanks!

How about a helper column with something like =A1&B1&C1&D1
and sorting on that to find duplicates?
best wishes

Thanks Bernard - I'm already sorting on my three primary fields - was hoping
for something a little more "automated", that I wouldn't have to review quite
so closely. anne

Hi, AnneCir,

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am trying to find out how to do the
same thing.

Thx!

No, no other suggestions. I just wound up sorting on multiple fields and
eyeballing it. My data house found 2 that I missed...I didn't think that was
too bad! I've since converted it to Access, haven't tried to unduplicate it
yet. Good luck!

Thanks, Bob. This was so long ago that I don't remember what the problem was
that I had with "Advanced Filter"...perhaps that will work for rfIPS.

Hi, Bob Umlas,

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I am unable to get the advanced filter
to work. I have a list of approximately 2000 contacts. In this list, we may
have 10 contacts at one address. Also in this list, their may be 5 addresses
of PO Box 1011 but located in different cities and/or states. I want to send
only one mailing to each unique address.

So, I need to be able to filter out duplicates based on information located
in the street address, city, state, & zip code columns. What's happening now,
is when the filter is run, it is filtering out all of the "PO Box 1011"
except one. I need all of these addresses in because they are for separate
contacts located in different states .

Can you point out what I may be doing wrong?

Thx for your help!
