Eliminating Blank Label Rows

Here is a method to eliminate the row of blank labels that shows up at the
bottom of the page after using the wizard to set up the report. It is
definitely not elegant, but it gets the job done. This method requires that
the sum of the vertical heights of the label fields is less than the label
height.

1. In the page setup window, make sure the “Same as Detail†box is checked.
2. Move the label fields to the bottom of the detail section and measure the
height of the blank space above them but within the detail section. An
example using one inch high labels might show 0.25 inches blank height.
3. Divide that blank space height by the number of rows of labels on the
page. My example would result in: 0.25 divided by 10 rows, or 0.025.
4. Reduce the height of the detail section by the resulting number, or very
slightly less. In my example that resulted in 1.0 inches minus 0.025, or
0.975. I used 0.98 which Access changed to 0.9799.
5. Preview and/or print a page to check the results. If the last row is
still blank, decrease the height of the detail section by an additional
miniscule amount. On the other hand, if the last row of labels has the top
line printing off the top of the label, increase the height of the detail
section by a miniscule amount.
6. If there is no detail height setting that works, consider reducing the
font size and field heights to provide more blank space on the label. Then
try again.

Reducing the detail section height to less than the height of the labels
themselves produces a slight upward “creep†on the label as each row is
printed. If there is sufficient blank space above the printing on the first
row, the last row will still fall within the top edge of the label.

There have been other solutions described on this site that are much better,
provided your printer can handle smaller margins. The above method is useful
when that is not the case.
