Eliminating Desktop Search

I have Office 2007 Pro installed on my Work PC which also included Windows
Desktop Search as part of the install.

Is this part of the normal Office 2007 install or is this something my PC
support people have bundled into the install?

If it is part of the normal install is there any way for me to remove the
Desktop Search or at least set the default to old Search Companion.
I really hate the new desktop search and want to go back to the old tool.

I know that Desktop Search has a link to the old tool but this is a pain.

Thanks

Windows Desktop Search can be removed using Add/Remove Programs.

BTW are you using version 3 or 4? I hated Windows Desktop Search 3, version
4 is supposed to be better but I haven't tried it yet.

I think I'm running 3.01 but can't be sure due to it being bundled with the
automated Office install process.

I don't have anything in add/remove programs for it, No MS Search, Desktp
Search, Windows Search, or any other permutation of name.

Failing a removal of Desktop Search is there any way I can set the "Classic"
search to always be my default?

It is not part of Office. And yes you can remove it. Ask your support people since you are probably on a Network and to remove it is done differently than on a stand alone computer
