Eliminating fax numbers from showing up in address book

Can anyone tell me how to stop Outlook from showing me the fax numbers when I hit the "TO" button on a new email? I always see two names of the same person, one email, the other their fax.
I am using Outlook XP.
Thanks!

The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

Have you received a response to your query. I can't find
one, and am very interested as I have the same problem and
it drives me mad.
Thanks

Agreed. Add your vote. You can send Outlook feature requests to
(e-mail address removed) with "Outlook" in the subject and to
(e-mail address removed)

If it truly is posted here five times a day, it's amazing the Microsoft
hasn't figured out that it's an issue for a lot of users, and therefore
addressed it in their core product, online help and other areas.
