Eliminating Outline task/subtask relationship

If I mistakenly indent one task below another task, I cannot find how to eliminate the resulting task/subtask relationship. Outdent button doesn't work on the subtask. How can the resulting task heading and subtask be made again into two simple tasks? How can they be reset to default highest level? As a workaround, I have had to insert new tasks, retype them and delete the task subtask pair.

This is a known bug in Project 2003 standard. I believe that a fix is in the
works. Just be careful until then...

Hi Cheryl ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

This is not a problem in 2002, only 2003 standard.

Hi Mike
I am building a very large project in ver 2002. I would like to cut and paste some of the task blocks that are duplicates. These block consist of a summary task and job tasks. When I copy and paste these items, they take indention under the task where they are copied. When I try to outdent, Project promptly displays a scheduling conflict error box. What is interesting is that the conflict is tied to the very first task which is an overall summary task of the project

In addition, I have discovered that I can only link 2 task at a time. I can't select sequential task and have the links trickle down as I was able to in ver 2000. Any ideas on this as well.

Collapse the task above where you are pasting them and they will not be
indented.
If you copy and paste a collapsed summary task it will include all the sub
tasks so it is easy to copy the whole block. Try it and see.

This could be something else. Are there links to summary tasks? Try
eliminating them and see what happens.

I can do it. Select them all and then click on the little link icon (looks
like a chain). Perhaps there are some hidden tasks in your project (is there
a filter on by any chance?)
