Email addresses disappearing from contacts in outlook

I imported contacts from my contacts list in Outlook 2003 to my boss' contact
list via Excel. When the import was completed, the email addresses were
visible. Since then, the email addresses for all the contacts have
disappeared and now show as the name@phone number. I exported the contacts
from his email contacts to my contacts and the email addresses show correct
on my side. What is causing this and how can I fix it?

What caused it was migrating Outlook data improperly. Your source data file
was Outlook, right? Your destination data file was Outlook, right?
Why would you change its format and export/import? That's a good way to lose
or change data, not a way to transport it intact.
To transfer Outlook data, you copy source data into an Outlook data file,
then open that file in the destination profile to access it.
