Email alert dont work using IMAP?

I use Outlook 2003 and set up Gmail account using IMAP, but not getting any
updates until I click on inbox folder, also I not getting any email alerts.


Can I make Outlook auto update IMAP account and ring alerts on new e-mails?


If not should I use STMP/POP3 instead and won't it cause any problems if I
use both at same time?

With a rule you can produce an alert using a sound file of your choice.
Outlook's built-in New Mail alert doesn't work on IMAP accounts.

This is one way to deal with it, yes. Just make sure you configure your POP
account to leave messages on the server.
