Email attachments disappear when sent to others

Whenever I send an attachment through Outlook, the recipient receives the
email without the attachment.

It happens to all attachments regardless of who I send it to and the format
of the file (eg PDF, Word, jpg, etc). If send the same attachment through web
mail or from another computer, the attachment remains intact and is received
in the email.

I've tried turning off my Anti-Virus program but that's not made any
difference, so I'm assuming the issue must be within Outlook itself.

I'm using Outlook 2002 SP3 on Windows XP.

Help!

Hi Milly,

Thanks for the response, but it makes no difference. I've tried sending
emails in plain text, Rich Text and HTML. The email message always gets
through but the attachment never does.

I've been through testing with my ISP and the issue definitely appears to be
with Outlook, as attachments reach the recipient if I use my ISP's webmail.

Turning off your virus scanner is not the same as disabling its integration
with Outlook. See the documentation of your virus scanner on how to do that
properly.

In addition try sending in Outlook Safe Mode and post back the results;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

Make sure you're not sending Rich Text to this particular recipient. If
they are in your Contacts folder, open their Contacts record and
double-click the e-mail address. Make sure the "Internet Format" drop-doewn
at the bottom says "Let Outlook decide the best sending format". Also, in
Outlook's main windows click Tools>Options>Mail Format>Internet Format. In
the "Outlook Rich Text options" section, make sure the drop-down contains
"Convert to HTML format" or "Convert to Plain Text format".
