Email Attachments won't open since last patch installed

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: intel
Email Client: imap

Word and PDF files will not open since the last Microsoft up date was installed from the internet. For about 1.5 weeks no attachments will open. If I load them on the thumb drive and move to a PC, open the doc and then transfer back to the Mac it will open but not before. HELP ME!

Do you see any error messages when you attempt to open the attachments? What
happens if you save the attachments to disk on your mac and then open them
from Finder?

If the attachment is a Word file, the error message says Can't open
attachment because it may be in USE or not a valid Word doc. Same thing
happens with the method you suggest using finder.

I'm having the same problem. When I email attachments (Word, Illustator, etc.)they can't be opened and get error messages. If I load them on a drive and mail them from my PC they work just fine. Happenend two upgrades ago. Thought it might be fixed with today's download.

I'm running Entourage 11.4.0
