Email Auto addresses doesn't work after importing from outlook exp

I have just configured and imported all of my adresses and messages from my
outlook express into my 2003 outlook, but the auto address function doesn't
work even though the addresses are in the address book. If, however, I
actually type in the email address, a subsequent email will auto address with
the address I typed in. How can I "activate" the addresses that are already
in the address book without having to type them in initially.

The "autocomplete" feature is working as designed. It has no such activation option.

You don't understand. That's how autocompletion works. It has nothing to do
with your Contact data. It uses a cache of names to which you've previously
sent messages.

You can't "activate" addresses for auto-complete, they are stored in a
separate file as you send messages. You don't have to type the full name
and e-mail address though; just type the first name and advance to the next
field. If there is a name in the address book that looks likely, Outlook
will put a wavy red underline and you can right-click to see the
possibilities.
