Email Contact Groups

I would like to create groups of email addresses. I have read the Entourage Help panel entitled "Create a group of address book contacts" but it is no help. The problem is that the "Group" choice in the drop down menu associated with the "New" contact icon does not allow me to select "Group". It is dimmed and not selectable. The same is true if I try to access it through File>New>Group. Group is dimmed and not selectable.

Groups do not synchronize with the Exchange Server. This is a limitation of
the Entourage application. However, you can create groups and save & use
them within Entourage; they simply will not be copied to the Exchange
Server.

This is a common request. If you want to see this feature in a future
version of Entourage, be sure to send feedback to Microsoft.

Actually, the problem is that I cannot even create groups in Entourage. I wasn't aware of the fact that Groups don't sync with the Exchange server, but thanks for the heads up. However, it will only make a difference if I can figure out why I can't make groups in the first place.

If you're trying to create Groups using Exchange Contacts or from the
GAL then that won't work.

You'll need to copy the contacts to your Entourage Address Book. Then
you can create Groups there.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Bill. I am trying to create groups from within Entourage Contacts, not on the Exchange server. I don't know what the problem is but the Group command just is not available to me as an option.

Cheers,

Thanks, Bill. I am trying to create groups from within Entourage Contacts, not
on the Exchange server. I don't know what the problem is but the Group command
just is not available to me as an option.

In Entourage Address Book view "On My Computer", select New --> Group from
the "new" icon or in the Menu bar under File --> New.

Tip: assign a category "group" to the contacts. You could have categories
like

group:work
group:soccer
group:Christmas cards

This might come in handy if you ever need to create a tab delimited file for
a specific group.

I just need to verify...

Entourage itself does not have "Contacts". It has an "Address Book".

Exchange "Contacts" are on your Exchange Server and can't be used with
Groups. If you're trying to make groups using records under a "Contacts"
heading then you're trying to do it with your Exchange account.
