Email Distribution

I want to create a distribution group in the Outlook's contacts of about two
even up to five thousand customer suppliers. Is that too many for one list?

And suppose I create an email and add the group to the BBC field - will the
system choke or does the ISP just handle it? The ISP will OK to any number.

I was thinking OE until I realized I couldn't find a way to import a .csv
file .. after checking Outlook I realized I could with that program. Then I
wondered if using Outlook for such a thing was feasible. It seems OK. Please
confirm/advise.

Thanks for any help and replies.

Yes, that's too many. Maintaining a list of that size would be a nightmare. Consider using a real list server -- either hosted or inhouse -- if you need to send to that many people regularly. Otherwise, your life will be filled with hours of managing unsubscribes and bounces.

Outlook is an e-mail *client*. It is not a server. It is not a
listserver. It is not a mass mailing program. Even if you can define a
distribution group that large, it is likely that you will it anti-spam
quotas with your ISP, like how many recipients are allowed per message,
how many mail sessions are allowed per minute, and how many recipients
(RCPT-TO) commands can be issued within one mail session. You could use
Word's MailMerge feature but it doesn't let you regulate the rate at
which e-mails are sent or add any delays between them so you will
probably hit anti-spam quotas with your ISP and/or e-mail provider, and
sending out each e-mail out separately to each recipient will make for
slow mailing. Go find a bulk mailing or listserver service to spew your
mass mailings. Remember that whether you send them from your domain or
that they originate from a listserver, your mass mailings are likely to
designate that mail source as a spam source and get you or that service
blacklisted. Make sure your mass mailings are not spam; else, you run
the gauntlet of anti-spam measures as do other spammers.
