Email/Entourage help

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange Hello,

My company uses Exchange 2003 and I just purchased a new (and my first) Mac with Office Business Edition. I have come to find out that Entourage 13.0.0 does not support OWA-type connectivity to Exchange 2003 (no POP or IMAP available). Now unfortunately the largest requirement for my laptop is useless to me.

How can I fix this (if possible)? Please help!

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Entourage 13.0 (EWS) requires Exchange 2007, which means, as you have
already found out, that it won't work with Exchange 2003. I don't know a
lot about the Business Edition, since it only came out a couple of
months ago, but if I remember correctly, Entourage EWS comes on a
separate disc. I seem to remember that the Business Edition also
contains the previous version of Entourage 2008 (v.12.2.x), which can be
used with earlier versions of Exchange. If that is the case, remove
Office 2008 using the Remove Office tool and reinstall the software. Do
not install Entourage 2008 v.13; simply use v.12 that should be
installed by default.

Keep in mind that this information may not be 100% reliable; it all
depends on whether the Business Edition ships with the previous version
of Entourage 2008 or not.

I believe this is correct. The Business Edition is shipping with Office
2008 (version 12.x.x) and includes an additional installer for Entourage
Web Services Edition (13.x.x).

Uninstalling Office using the Remove Office tool and using Help -->
Check for Updates should be all that's needed for connecting to Exchange
2003. Do not install the Web Services Edition update.

Thanks for confirming, Bill!

Michel,

Thanks for this sharing information about EWS being on a separate disc
(hence an optional install for Exchange 2003 users).

Thank you both for the replies.

Unfortunately, it is all on one disk (purchased the box with laptop less than 5 days ago). The installer will only do it all or nothing - so, I went in separately and installed everything except Entourage. All other apps (Word, Excel, etc) function as they should.

Question is how do I go about just installing a previous version of Entourage?

Ok, I have it synching now I believe. Will see if it completes the process!

Could you briefly explain, for the benefit of other users, how you
installed Entourage? If both versions of Entourage are on the same disc,
I assume you have performed a custom install of Entourage v.12. Can you
confirm this?=

Hmm...

It should not be that complicated. It might be possible to perform a
custom install right from the installer disc. Again, I can't say for
sure, since I don't have the Business Edition to verify.

Which download did you use? As far as I know, the only available
download is Entourage Web Services Edition, aka. v.13, the version which
you do not want to install.

I wish it wasn't that complicated too.

I didn't see any custom installer option - even when going through the installation process off the CD I was never given the "Advanced" option (sorry for the PC term) to custom pick the software applications I wanted to install. Have to say that it does say this is an option from the main window before clicking on the installer which seems to be misleading as I never had the choice but to install everything and every application.

There is an Office v 11.something out there which can be upgraded to 12.0 which is what I used for Entourage. Will see what happens when I try to upgrade past 12.0.

And if I didn't say thank you, thank you for the quick replies and support, it is really appreciated as I was feeling a little lost in my first foray into the Mac world.
