Email goes to incorrect folders

I am using Entourage for Mac, 2004. It has done well for me since the day I
purchased it, but am having problems as of late.

My incoming mail frequently goes to the wrong folder. I have all my mailing
lists to be moved to a folder named²Mailing Lists² and is controlled using
the Mailing List Manager. Lately MOST of my mail seems to be going to this
folder. Even those whose names are in my address book. I have come to the
point where I have assigned ³Rules² to force normal emails go to the ³In
Box². I have rebuilt the data base several times, but seem to have this
reoccurring problem. In the past this would occur occasionally, but not to
the extent I felt it was a problem. I am not loosing any email that I know
of, but this is really becoming annoying.

MacBook Pro, 233MHz, 2 gig RAM, OS 10.5.6

You need to check all your Mailing List Manager rules. It's very easy to set
up a MLM rule by accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The
wording of that dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an
MLM entry (look for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect
destination folder as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run
before your other rules.

I have double checked all my mailing rules, and all are set to the correct
folder. One other funny thing the happens is I have my banking alerts set to
go to the ³IN² box. The bank requires TWO email addresses to be on file. One
of these alerts goes to my ³IN box, the other goes to thee Mailing List
folder. I have set a separate rule to that email so that when email coming
from that address is received, it will go to my ³IN box², but still goes to
the wrong box.

I also have a MSM rule to have all mail sent from a Photoshop list to go to
a specific folder, but that seems to work just fine without fail.

I suppose I could create a new a new account and start from scratch, but
that would take some time and really be a pain.

Make sure that your rules are in the right order. Remember that Entourage
processes rules in the order listed, and that by default, once Entourage has
decided that a rule applies to a particular message, it will not attempt to
apply any of the lower-listed rules to that message.
