Email links open in Browser, not Outlook?

I

Ian

"Mailto" links I click try to open in Internet Explorer
instead of Outlook, and result in tens of instances of IE
firing up - all naturally failing to display anything
useful! Only way out I have found is to Ctrl-Alt-Del and
kill IE from Task Manager.

I have Outlook 2002 (SP3) installed on XP Home. Outlook
is set as the default Email program, confirmed in
Internet Settings in IE. Works the same irrespective of
whether the email link is clicked in IE, Outlook
messages, or a Word doc. IE version is 6.2 SP2.

Not sure how relevant this next bit is, but ...

When I installed Office XP (including Outlook) on a new
laptop I was still using Outlook Express as my email
client. Even then, this syndrome was evident. I had real
trouble after I first installed Office XP, trying to
persuade IE that OE was the default email program - kept
reverting to Outlook (presumably knowing it had been
installed when I installed Office).I only moved over to
Outlook from OE a couple of months back.

Anyone got any ideas, please?

Rgds,
Ian

check the open action for your URL:MailTo Protocol association in Folder
Options (accessed via control Panel) | File Types

open
"C:\PROGRA~1\MI1933~1\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"

Use DDE is checked.

DDE Application Not Running should be blank.

Topic should contain System

Any further advice, please?

Try this: In IE, click Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings.
It may not work, but it's worth a shot.

for those who might be following this thread the problem was corrected by
setting another email client to default in IE Properties and then changing
the default back to Outlook.
