Email must be sent twice -- WHY?

Using OL2002, and Word as editor. After clicking SEND, the email goes
into the OUTBOX, but must be reopened and SEND clicked again before it
goes back into the OUTBOX and sent successfully.

The first time it goes in the OUTBOX, the TO address, and the SUBJECT
text "are not" in italics, and it will not send. The second time it
goes in the OUTBOX -- after reopening -- the TO address, and the
SUBJECT text "are" in italics, indicating it's ready to send and it
then sends successfully.

Is there a fix for getting the email to go into the OUTBOX and send
successfully without having to do it twice?

Thanks.

What version of Outlook are we talking about here?
Verify that your Outlook is not in Offline mode.
Otherwise reset your Send/Receive settings by renaming your srs-file to .old

Thank you. I'm using OL2002, ver.10.2627. I'm always in ONline mode
and never in OFFline mode. Can you tell me wher to find the "srs" file
and what to do AFTER I rename it to ".old"?

Thanks,
