email "protocol error" from McAfee re MS Outlook email

trying to send email and received error message which read, in part:"

550 5.7.1 authenication req'd...." contact email provider. I don't
understand the message which popped up from a McAfee Virus Scan -- "protocol
error" and does not permit me to send the email. Can somebody help
