Email Spelling Checker Not Working (But Says it Is!)

My Outlook 2007 spelling checker has not worked for at least the last week.

When an email message is ready to send, I click on the "Spelling" toolbar
icon . . . and I immediately get a dialog box that says "Spelling Checking
Complete".

But it is missing tons of obvious mis-spelled words (for instance, I could
type: poiuweroaefe . . . and the speller checker would not find it in the
message body).

I am using the entire Office 2007 suite (including Word).

Does any kind soul know how I can fix this?
