Email stuck in outbox but received multiple times on other side

I attempted to send an 8mb file this morning but it got stuck in my outbox
and gave me send and receive errors. The person i was sending it to received
it 8 times but it never showed up in my sent items!?

anybody know how to fix this?! It is outlook 2007

Generally, it's because you have an Anti-Virus software running within Outlook
as a plug in, or a A/V software running on the OS with general SMTP/POP filtering,
which causes Outlook to think it hasn't sent the message, so needs to retry,
even tho it successfully sent.

If the message is stuck in the outbox still:
File - Work Offline
Wait 5 minutes
Attempt to delete message.
If it still fails, file-exit.
Wait 5 minutes and check task manager to be sure that Outlook.exe is not
on the processes list.
Restart Outlook and remain offline.
Attempt to delete the message.

Then, once the message is gone, remove any SMTP/POP/Outlook hooks from your
A/V software (you may need to uninstall and reinstall it and not include
that portion).
