Email stuck in Outbox

One of our users recently started having problems sending email. She is using
Outlook 2003 SP 3 - the operating system is Windows XP 2002 Professional SP2.
The Windows Firewall is enabled. McAfee is installed.
The emails are not large and in most cases do not have an attachment. This
problem has been intermittent - sometimes they send sometimes they don't. She
is able to receive email. The only workaround that we have found to correct
the problem is to completely reboot the computer. Once she reboots the emails
send just fine.

Error message:
Sending reported error (Ox8004210B) The operation timed out waiting for a
response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this
message contact your server administrator or ISP

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try this: Go to Tools | Account Settings, click the E-mail tab and then
select the e-mail account that's giving you the timeout. Click Change.

In the next dialog that pops up, click More Settings, then the Advanced tab.
You can set your server timeout interval there.

Uninstall McAfee completely, then reinstall without the message scanning
feature. See if that helps.

Almost every time this has happened to me it was because there were other
(invisible) instances of Outlook running, if it happens again check Windows
Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del once) and see if this holds true for you...and
close the other instances.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try
adjusting the timeout interval. I will also uninstall and reinstall McAfee.
I tried locating the email scan feature in McAfee (so that I could disable
it) but could not find it anywhere.

You should have the option of a custom install when you install VirusScan
(or whatever McAfee calls their product now).

Simply quoting another person's post adds nothing to the discussion.
