Email Time Zone Issue

Anand Mandapati

When I travel, I like to change the time zone of my MacBook Pro to the local
time zone. However, when I do this, old emails in my mailboxes retain the
time they were originally downloaded in the old time zone while new emails
are displayed as being received in the new time zone. This problem is
exacerbated when I get back to the original time zone. Depending on what
direction the time zone change is, I get messages that are either old and
thus not displayed at the top or newer than the current time. Apple's
Mail.app, Outlook for Windows, my Blackberry, etc., all change the time
displayed to the local time zone which is what I would expect. Is there any
way to do this in Entourage 2008?

My only current workaround is to delete the cache and redownload all email
when I land in a new time zone which takes a long time with my ~2GB mailbox.
It's REALLY annoying to travel like this.

Thanks,

Hi Anand!

Currently, this is not possible. Entourage should display message
Sent/Received times relative to your time zone but doesn't.

Please be sure to let Microsoft know you'd like to see this feature in
future versions by using the Help --> Send Feedback mechanism in any
Office application.

Bummer. I've already reported it through Mactopia's Entourage feedback.
Are there any workarounds that are quicker than re-syncing the cache?

Yours is the first workaround I've heard. After checking the Entourage
AppleScript dictionary I don't see any way of doing this programatically
either.

Keep in mind that you don't need to resync the entire set of caches. You
can do this per folder too. If you can put all your newly received
messages into a special folder while traveling then you can empty the
cache of just the one folder when you return and resync that.

Hope this helps!
