Email: Typing characters has delayed appearance

Outlook 2003 SP2

When typing in an email, the appearance of the characters are delayed.
I type several words and they do not show, but when I stop for a few
seconds it "catches up" and the words then appear. I noticed it only
does this when I'm using the HTML message format as opposed to plain
text.

How can I fix it from doing this?
