Email w/ word .doc rec'd, "saved," where'd it go?

O.K., I'm stumped. Emailed myself a Word doc I was working on at work
to my home so I could work on it here. I do it all the time. But I
"saved" this one to my home Mac and then did some editing, etc., saved
the doc, then took a break. Come back to do more editing and when I
open the Documents directory the doc is there but not in bold, it's in
gray, and I can't open it. Any way to retrieve it? If not, a lot of
wasted work this a.m. Thanks.

Sounds like a file system error.

All I can suggest is "Reboot the Mac" and see if that brings it back.
