Email Workgroups

Tina

I am trying to setup email workgroups for Project 2000 but it doesn't seem to be working. I ran the WGsetup.exe, designated each of the resources in the email workgroup, but when I send an assignment to someone, it sends an email with an attachment that can't be read. I am running Outlook 2003 Pro. Is this a compatability issue? Any Information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You need to run WGsetup.exe on each user's PC in order to get the workgroup
messaging feature to work for them. Did you do this?

Hi Tina,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You need to run wgsetup.exe of every recipients' PC.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

As a test, I ran the setup on my computer and one other person's and tried to send him a task, but it didn't work.

What did it do? Did the message not get sent or was the recipient not able
to read it? The WGSETUP file is an Outlook add-in. If the recipient
couldn't read the message but did receive it, check the add-ins on his
Oulook to make sure it's actually installed and there's a check mark next to
it to indicate it's been turned on. Also check in the Outlook client Help
menu, About ... screen, at the lower right of the dialog box there's a
button labeled "Disabled Items" - take a look there and see if it was
disabled - if so you can re-enable it there.

Thank you everyone for all your responses!

Ok, I have set up all other receipiants and things are
working fine there. However, when I send myself a task,
it tries to open the task in NoteMap (an outlining
program we use for brainstroming). We have tried to
change what it opens it in to Outlook, but when we so
that, it the opens it into a new outgoing message. Am I
not allowed to assign myself a task so that I too can use
my task list in Outlook to keep track?

Also, I can not seem to find any specific instructions on
how to use this system...specifically, when a resource
completes a task and marks it 100% on his task list,
should it update me automatically, or do I have to
request an update? (because so far, automatic updates are
not happening).

Thanks again...any advise would be great!

I am getting the same error message with outlook 2002 and
Project 2002. I have installed WGsetup.exe on the client
PCs. Project seems to suggest that I need to have Project
Server installed even for e-mail collaboration. Is this
true?

Thanks

Graham

Sounds like the luck of the draw in file extension roulette has NotMap using
the same file extension as the one used by Project for its workgroup
messages - .mxm I think it is though I'm not certain of it.
