Emailing a word document makes the TOC page #s revert to all 1's?

When I send a word document in an email to coworkers, after they have opened
the document, the Table Of Contents pagination for all TOC1 components
reverts to a "1". I have never seen this - and I have worked with Word for
over 10 years. Any suggestions? I did inherit the document from someone
else - maybe it is possibly a corrupted file?

Any comments/fixes will be appreciated . . . .

This is usually a result of opening the document in Reading Layout view.
Updating the TOC (F9) will correct the problem.
