Emailing PowerPoint

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I would like to know how to email a PPT presentation. My email says it can take attachments of 26 mb and my ppt is 23. I send it and it cocmes back.

Can it be compressed? I get large ppt's often. How do they send them?

In direct reply to your main question you can use a compression utility such
as StuffIt which may reduce the file size sufficiently for emailing. It will
depend on the actual type of content in the as to how effective compression
would be. As far as those you receive, if they aren't compressed it must be
a matter of difference in the mail services of yours & those senders as
opposed to that of those you're attempting to send to. Is it coming back due
to restrictions on your outgoing service or because of limitations on the
recipients' end? There should be some sort of message as to why the message
was undeliverable. Keep in mind also that even though someone's mail service
might be unrestricted there may be a limit on their mailbox size. If the
recipient's box is full it could result in a return as well.

Approaching from another direction, though, why is the file so large? I have
a 525 slide file here with around 50 JPEG photos, custom animation, etc.
which weighs in at only 5MB. Is it possible you could keep the file sizes
down by using more efficiently prepared content material?

I'm not sure about why it is so large. I have 21 photos from iPhoto and captions on each one. Apple Casual font, around 20 point size. And one page of script, maybe 200 words. No fancy backgrounds, nothing.
Everything is pretty much PPT default

Any suggestions on sizing?

Thanks,
Phil

Copy/pasted or inserted from file? (Insert is preferable)

What's the size of the photos (in pixels, not file size) and what
format are they stored in?

Choice of font or the number of characters won't affect the file size a
great deal, then.

Assuming that you'll present the presentation on your laptop or via a
projector, the images don't need to be any larger than the highest
display resolution you'll use (typically projectors top out at
1024x768). And that's for full-slide images. Smaller images can be
downsampled to proportionally smaller sizes.

Steve's right - depending on the camera settings if the photos were taken
with a 5 Mpx or greater camera then simply uploaded into an iPhoto Library
they're probably what's causing the extreme file size. A 5 Mpx JPEG image
(2560x1920) results in a file size of approximately 2MB, whereas the same
image at a 1024x768 pixel dimension results in a file size less than 200KB.

Camera mfrs use megapixels as a marketing tool the way the auto industry
uses horsepower & tries to convince the unwary consumer that "more is
better". The only reason anyone needs more than a 1.3 Mpx camera is if they
intend to produce professional high quality prints larger than 5"x7".

Or considerably smaller if saved as JPG with only moderate compression.

And if the image is in JPG format, PPT will store it that way internally.
