Emailing Word 2007 documents

I am using Word 2007. When I save documents, I use the "Save As" feature to
change the document to be compatible with Word 97-2003. However, when I
email documents as an enclosure to my boss. He is unable to open the
document. His "IT" person says the files are corrupted.

What am I doing wrong or what can I tell him to do to correct the problem?
