Emailing Word documents

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I am trying to email word or excel documents to windows users, and each time they are unable to open. Is there a way to make the documents compatible with windows office programs, so that a windows user can receive the documents i have created in my apple?

Three key ingredients:

Always use filename extensions
Zip any attachments
Make certain that your email software uses the correct encoding

It's also possible that the Windows users do not have the [free] OXML
Converters installed. These are necessary to open the Office 2008 native
files if they're using a version of Office prior to 2007.
