emails not sending-outlook 2007

I

icanjive

Hi, Can anyone help me?
I have read through the posts here and there are a lot of similar problems
but non that seem to come up with a cure that works for me.
The basic problem is emails getting stuck in thje outbox when sending.
I am running vista home premium on a sony vaio laptop. Outlook 2007 as part
of office enterprise 2007. I also have Norton 360 running.
I have only had the system a couple of weeks and have been using an old
Advent desktop with XP SP2 and the same software config with no problems
prior to this.
The problem is that sometimes (more often than not). when I send an email
outlook goes through its send cycle and reports send/recieve complete. I also
get the Norton window in the sys tray showing email scanning taking place.
But, when I look in the outbox the email is still there unsent (although it
shows a sent date and time). It seems to depend on who I send to, some people
in my contacts I can send to but pthers get stuck. However this doesn't
appear to be consistent. I also have had one instance when I tried to send an
email to a distribution list of an email from the system administrator (me)
saying:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: FW: ***SUBJECT***
Sent: 21/11/2007 10:53

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

''email 1'' on 21/11/2007 10:53
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.

''email 2'' on 21/11/2007 10:53
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this
recipient........etc.

All the recipients are in my contacvts list.

I have tried everything I know of. Even down to restoring the laptop and
starting again from scratch. I have tried creating a new profile, re-imported
the data from the old machine, disabled firewall etc. all to no avail.
I hope I am missing something obviouse that some kind soul can point out to
me. In which case I will gratefully eat humble pie as long as I can send
emails again.
One thing, can anyone confirm for me if Norton 360 scans outbound emails?
Norton helpdesk say it doesn't but I am sure I get a window pop up saying
email scanning in process when sending only but it doesn't stay up ,ong
enough to read it properly.
Also if I mouse over the Norton icon in sys tray it often shows email
scanning in progress when nothing is going on??
I hope all this makes sence.
Regards

Have you tried disabling Norton? (Many people here would advise getting rid
of it entirely....)

The very first thing to do is to uninstall Norton and reinstall it without
the mail scanning feature.

I have disabled Norton as far as I can without uninstalling (not very friendy
on that score). I have spoken to Norton Support as well but was told Norton
doesn't scan outgoing emails. Not sure if this is true though???
I went for Norton as it allows multiple installations on one subscription.
Think I'll try uninstalling altogether.
If it works and I get rid what is the concensus as to the best replacement??

I

Just tried de-installing Norton 360 completely and testing email without any
security software running, even windows firewall switched off. Mails are
still sicking in outbox???

I have now done a restore on the machine. Installed outlook 2007. Not
installed any antivirus. Disabled windows firewall. and I still get messages
stuck in the outbox??

I have turned on logging and -sods law- it hasn't happened since. I'm sure it
will when emaiul gets busy after the weekend so I'll leave it on and report
back when I have logged an instance of the problem.

Careful, your log could get VERY big if you leave it on for a significant
amount of time.

You are correct. The message was accepted by your ISP, Outlook knows it
has, and it should have moved from Outbox to Sent Items. I'm bothered by
the fact that it stays in Outbox.

By the way, if you ever have to post data containing mail addresses, in the
furture, modify those addresses so that they are not real.

Thanks for the remider about the email. I meant to do it but forgot all about
it.
The original email below was sent to several recipients, one in the TO field
and several in the BCC, the only one I know it got to was the TO recipient
(me). I have just tried to send the same mail to two recipients that I can
monitor the inboxes of. Again one in the TO and one in the BCC fields. The
message was delivered to the TO recipient but not to the BCC recipient. Again
the log shows exactly the same as before. So it looked as if the BCC field
was causing the problem. However, I have just sent a mail to another TO
recipient only and that didn't go either although the log shows it going OK.
I'm confused???

Did you say you tried a Help>Office DIagnostics yet? Did you try a new mail
profile?

I have been working on the reporting a bit more. I have a PC running the same
outlook on XP SP2 which is sending OK. I have created a log file on each
computer showing only 1 send operation. It is now clear that the Laptop is
not connecting to the SMTP server, even though it doesn't report an error
through the user interface.

Here is a copy of the two logs. As far as I can see the configs are the
same. Anyone any ideas why one is working and one not??
