Emails not updated in mailbox

I am a new user to Entourage and have discovered that it may take hours for
my new messages to find their way into my Inbox. Sometimes when I close and
reopen Entourage the messages will appear, sometimes not. I create a new
account with the same settings and they are downloaded but not the existing
account. Now the new account stopped updating as well. Anyone know of a fix
for this?

What version of Entourage? Entourage 2008, Entourage 2004 Under Entourage in
the Menu bar, look under About Entourage

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange) Look in your Account under Tools
in the Menu bar when Entourage is open.

What version of the OS? Look under the Apple in the Menu bar > About this
Mac. 10.6.3, 10.5.8
