Embed mp3 sounds in PPT without converting to wav?

I can't embed mp3 sounds into PPT; I have to link them, or convert them to
WAV format. Is this just me, or is this a known issue? Is there a
work-around?

Try this. It's worked for me and I just tried it again and all is ok.
Insert, movies and sounds .... from file ... then select your mp3 file.
You'll end up with a little sound icon. You can drag it off your screen if
you like. You can also tell powerpoint to "not show" the icon when it's
playing ... I think that's in the animation properties task pane for that
item in the list. click settings.

You can convert to a "riffWAV," which adds WAV headers to your MP3, which
fools PPT into embedding it. Anecdotal evidence shows that these sound files
may not play on all systems, though.

Thanks for setting me straight. I thought I'd add my two cents worth - only
worth half that!
As an after thought, does this mean ... if I link the mp3, and say, send the
ppt file to someone, the file won't play (cuz it's not embeded).
I didn't start this thread but I might as well be clear on it while we're on
topic.

No, that's not true but you must include the linked mp3 file with the
ppt/pps file or it won't play. I sent a classroom program with mp3 voice
files for each page. I zipped the pps file and the mp3 files into one zip
file. It was too large to email so I sent it via yousendit.com. You can
send files up to1GB using that method. Works fine. Go to yousendit.com...
enter the email address of the recipient... enter your email address...
browse to the zipped file you want and select it.... enter a message
telling the recipient what this is about so he won't delete it.. tell him to
unzip all the files into one folder... and click on send or OK. Wait... it
takes a while to upload it all.
