Embedded Excel file reading as corrupt (but isn't)

I embedded an Excel file in a Word document, as I've done many times before.
I can double-click and view the file fine, but two colleagues can't. They
have been able to open embedded objects in other documents, including ones
from me. I recreated the Excel file, resaved, and re-embedded it -- still no
luck.

The error message they get indicates the file can't be opened. They're
asked if they would like to have Microsoft repair the problem. That runs for
a short while, then they get the message "This object is corrupt or is no
longer available."

Anyone have a suggestion or recommendation?

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, we aren't using Norton, so that's
not the culprit. Embedding the object has worked at other times in the same
environment, which is part of what makes this so frustrating....

Have your colleagues use Windows Explorer or My Computer to
search their hard drives for a Norton AntiVirus file named
OFFICEAV.DLL (be sure to include hidden and system files/folders
in the search options). If they find it, they should note the
folder where it is located, and use the "regsvr32 /u" method
described in KB329820 to unregister the DLL.

Ran the search - no such file found. The company we're working with has a
different anti-viral software, and the defaults are to scan outgoing files
only. Anything else that might trigger this problem -- other than the file
being corrupt, which it's not....

Thanks again for any help.
