Embedded Excel sheet in Word document converts into image

Hi!

I've been using a (homemade) template for my invoices for years now, with an
embedded Excel sheet that I've always been able to edit. A few days ago, the
box with the sheet didn't appear in the Word document anymore, just the text
"{ EMBED Excel.Sheet 12 }". I've been trying to get the box to show again,
but when I didn't manage to do so, I created a new sheet. (I'm not even sure
"sheet" is the correct word here, since it's not an Excel document per se,
just the calculation sheet embedded in Word.) I could edit it just fine, and
made the calculations work the way I want them to. Now, when I try to open
the document again, the sheet has been converted into a picture. Creating a
new embedded sheet gives me the "{ EMBED Excel.Sheet 12 }" again.

What am I doing wrong here?

Please let me know if this needs further explaining, I'm confusing myself
just by trying to describe what I've done here...

Thanks in advance for any kind of help you can give me!

In Word, press Alt+F9 to toggle between display of field codes
(what you see now) and field results.

Thanks a lot!

This takes care of the "{ EMBED Excel.Sheet 12 }"! :)

Still, I'm wondering why my previous sheets have converted into images. Any
clues to why?

Gaah, it keeps happening!

Why could it be that in _all_ my invoices, even those I haven't opened in a
while, the excel sheets have been transformed into images?

I also tried making new sheets in new Word documents. Editing then works
just fine until I close them, but when I open them next time the sheets are
just non-editable images.

(Thanks again for the Alt+F9 solution to my original problem! I suspect my
attempts at solving it were what caused this to start happening, but I'm
afraid I have no clue what I did. I did right click and...convert the sheet
from something or other to something else, but I'm afraid I didn't pay much
attention to what I did. Comes back to bite me now, i guess.)

If you select one of the non-editable images and press Alt+F9 to
show the underlying field code, what does the field code contain
between the curly braces?

Nothing, it is still just an image. Clicking it brings up the toolbar for
images, where I can change size, add shadows and similar stuff. (Toolbar
might be the wrong word, but you get the idea. I'm using a Swedish version of
Word.)

Yesterday's sheets are still sheets, though. :) I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If, in your attempts, you pressed Ctrl+Shift+F9, you unlinked the field, and
that would result in an image, I believe.
