Embedded Excel Template Link problem

I have an embedded link to an excel template on public folders.
However when the users access this link it does not act like an excel
template should - it allows the user to save the template instead of
creating a new document. I think this is an outlook problem because if
I just create the file:// link the template works correctly but when I
embedd the link using the Insert-Object it causes this problem -
anybody have any ideas as to why????

That's normal behavior for templates stored as "freedocs" in public folders. Templates should be stored on network drives and accessed with a file:// link. Just copy or type the link into a message.
