Embedded files do not always play when saved as a Web Page (.mht)

I have created a ppt file with embedded .wav files. When I look at the .wav
file information it shows as [Contained in presentation]. I am saving my .ppt
as a .mht by clicking File > Save as Web Page > Publish. As part of
Publishing, I set the Browser Support as "Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or
later (high fidelity)".

When I play the .mht file in the location that I saved it, the sound plays
flawlessly. When I move the presentation (either to another network drive, or
to my desktop), sometimes the sound plays and sometimes it does not. When the
sound does not play, I receive a message before the .mht begins:
"This presentation contains content that your browser may not be able to
show properly. This presentation was optimized for more recent versions of
Microsoft Internet Explorer.
If you would like to proceed anyway, click here."

I also have to click to allow an active x control before the presentation
will begin.

Co-workers received simiar results. I cannot figure out if I need to save
the .mht file using different settings, or if this is a setting in my
Internet Explorer browser window.

Ultimately, I would like this to be a .mht file that can be linked to our
web page, so that customers can just click on the link and the presentation
begins and plays itself.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for confirming, I just didn't want to
believe it!

It sounds for all the world like a browser settings issue, Becky.
I'd carefully compare the settings on the PCs where it works with those where it
doesn't.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to control the settings on your visitors'
computers; besides that, you should understand that not all browsers support
MHT format files. Any recent version of MSIE should, Firefox does not, unless
the user's installed special plug-ins for it, and as far as I know, no Mac
browser does either (unless maybe Opera for Mac has been updated lately).
