Embedded Fonts Not Working in Word XP?

Howdy guys 'n' gals.

I've got a template with a barcode font embedded in it. It opens fine on
my Word2K box, but WordXP does not display the font properly even though
the font description still says "Barcode."

What gives with that?!

Hi Sonny

Does the system running Word XP have the Barcode font installed on it? Just
because the font dropdown says Barcode does not mean that that particular
font is installed. From the Start Menu try: Settings>Control Panel>Fonts and
see if the Barcode font is installed.

If the fonts not installed you have two choices, either install the font or
if the Barcode font is a TrueType font turn on embed TrueType fonts for this
template: Tools>Options>Save>Embed TrueType fonts.

Beware of the last option if your template uses more than 1 or 2 fonts the
document can be VERY large as the entire set of every font used in the
document will be saved as part of it. If you have to use this option check
the file size before and after you turn it and and see if you can live with
it.

No, but the template has the font embedded. Notice in my subject line
how I mention "Embedded Fonts," and in my original post I mention "a
template with a barcode font embedded in it." :)

I embed the font because it's a barcode font and not many of my clients
have that installed. It's worked fine until Word XP (2002). Seems to be
a bug... eh?

Hi Sonny,

You would probably get a faster reply by writing in the
"microsoft.public.word.printingfonts" newsgroup.

Most likely the fonts you have are not properly designed. You can use
a font validator to find where the problem is. I would suggest you get
a quality barcode font from Morovia at http://www.morovia.com/font/.
Their fonts are 100% compatible with Microsoft Office.

Well, the embedded barcode font works fine on every version of Microsoft
Word from 97 to 2000, so it will, of course, be Microsoft's fault if
they've somehow made it incompatible with their Office XP (2002 or 2003)
product... :)
