embedded images from windows shrink or corrupted

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

We frequently embed images from a windows application to an Excel or Word 2007 file. Most are graphs which can be copied directly to the clipboard from an application. Pasting into 2007 works fine but when the file is opened in 2008, the images are distorted and/or shrunk, and are unusable.
