Embedded objects problem

Hello all, hope you can help. I use Windows XP sp1, & Microsoft Office XP
sp2, & for some reason my word files with embedded objects won't work
properly. The file opens okay, but when I double click the embedded object
to edit, I get error saying "This object is corrupt or is no longer
available". All I can do next is click "OK" so can't edit the object. This
only happens with word, the other programs, excel & the like don't have this
problem. I've tried reinstalling & repairing, but it still won't work. This
happens with old files & newly created ones, & happens with all embedded
objects. I have now tried uninstalling office completely, then doing a
full install again, but this does not help. Maybe my uninstall wasn't full,
as when reinstalled all my settings were still as I left them. I expected to
have to reset everything the was I had to when I first installed Office. Is
there anyway I can completely remove all traces of Office & start with a
fresh clean install?
I can still edit these files as I still have Microsoft office 97 on my
system, & this works no problem.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi Rab,
If you're using Norton Antivirus disable the 'Office Plug In'
in the Miscellaneous area and see if that changes things for
when you restart Word.

Thanks Chris & Bob.
I tried Disabling Norton Antivirus 'Office Plug In', & it's now working fine
again. Norton's given me a few problems lately, the firewall wouldn't work.
So I reinstalled & it's now working, but it's doing things it never used to
do, some for the best like downloading updates & telling me when they're
installed. And things for the worst like this problem with word. But never
mind it's going great now, thanks again.
Rab.
