Embedded PDF will not start in Word document that is in protectedmode

Hi All,

I have embedded a pdf in my Word 2003 document. The pdf will open
while Word is in unprotected mode. However, when I put the document in
protected mode, the pdf will not open.

How can I embed (I am sending the Word document to several users) a
pdf (or another 4 page Word document, I don't care) so that it will
open when the host document is in protected mode?

If you insert a PDF as an object into a document or insert a document into a
document it becomes part of the document and the fact that it is protected
as a form shouldn't make any difference. Are you linking the object or
trying to insert it after the document is protected?

I have inserted both a pdf and a word doc - Insert, Object, and selected
"Display as Icon" while in unprotected mode. Both will open by double
clicking. When I enter protected mode, neither will open.

I can't link the object as I am going to sent this to people who do not have
access to the documents. I have to embed.

I forgot to mention that I work a very controlled IT environment. Could
something have not been installed in Word to prevent embeded pdf and docs
when Word is protected? Maybe for security reasons?

I'm grasping at straws here.......

OK - I had assumed that you were displaying the object. Create a section
break (or breaks) so that you can insert the object in an unprotected
section. You can select which sections to protect from the protect document
dialog.
