Embedding Data

In Word 2002, I want *not* to embed linguistic data and SmartTags.
However, it appears that the toggles for those two settings, under
Tools/Options/Save, are document-specific, not global. Is there any
other way--dealing with the registry, for example, or other config
files--to restrict the embedding of linguistic data and SmartTags?

Thank you for this observation. I've been trying for days to get Word to
save these settings and assumed that its failure to do so was due to a
damaged Registry key (which also causes it to fail to save some other
Options settings, but I haven't yet gotten desperate enough to nuke the
key). If your assumption is true, however, it should work to open Normal.dot
for editing and make the changes there. For tips on opening Normal.dot, see

P.S. I just tried this, and bravo! It works. Unfortunately, it didn't solve
my other Options problem. <sigh>
