Embedding Fonts: Does OpenType work too?

Colin Higbie

The embed font option (in Word 2003) specifies TrueType fonts. Since newer
versions of Windows and Office ship with OpenType fonts, may I assume that
it actually mean TrueType and OpenType fonts? Or, does it only embed the
TrueType part of an OpenType font (I think OpenType is a combination of the
data for TrueType and Type1), or will it fail altogether?

I need to know because I'm buying a font and would prefer to buy the
OpenType version, but not if it will fail to embed in Word (and PowerPoint).

Thanks for any information,
Colin

If you don't get an answer here, try posting in

there, but Microsoft's font specialist occasionally drops in as well.
