word2008: is there any opportunity to embed TrueTypeFonts while saving? or something like that?
I am sure this can be done with earlier Mac-version of Word, this allowed you to embed the font to keep the original looks of the document.
If I remember it right, go to Option > Save and opt for Embed TrueType Fonts.
But where can I find a similar option on word2008? `ll be grateful for any help...

Your memory serves you well :) but Word 98 was the last Mac version to
support font embedding. Font Substitution was introduced in the 2001 release
and continues to be the method. If you want to preserve appearance send a
PDF instead of or in addition to the Word file.

many thanks for your reply! I´ve created several templates even for windows-vista-use - so there is on one hand the windows-mac barrier on the other hand the font problem. Any chance to transcendent this barriers?

Fonts really don't have to be an issue as long as you use fonts that are the
same on both platforms - Unicode fonts should be reliable. Especially if you
use the fonts supplied by MS in the Office suites there should be no problem
at all - they're identical & any user of Office should have them.

I'm not sure what "barriers" you're referring to other than the lack of VBA
support in Office 2008. That issue aside, transportability from PC to Mac &
back doesn't have to present any barriers if that need is anticipated & the
template/document is designed properly with that requirement in mind. John
McGhie does this sort of thing for a living so if you encounter any specific
issues post them here in detail. Either he or someone else should be able to
help you over any rough spots.

The second most common cause for Word docs to flow differently on the two
platforms is the difference between printer drivers. This is something over
which you have little - if any - control. That, however, isn't a Mac/PC
issue... The same anomalies can occur not only within the same OS but also
on the same computer if there are multiple printers available. But even that
is minimal if the right fonts & structure have been used.
