Embedding Has Stopped Working (Or Did It Work At All?)

Hi! I'm using OneNote 2007, Office 2007 Pro, Windows Vista Business on an
IBM X60 Tablet. I've found recently that the files I've put into OneNote
pages are inaccessible when I delete them from their original locations.
I've added the files into OneNote use the Insert / Files dropdown and also by
dragging / dropping and selecting the "Embed" option. Neither work. I found
out by accident that these files were no longer available when trying to call
up my research paper -- the system reported that the original file cannot be
found. Luckily, it was still hanging out in my recycle bin. What do I need
to do to get files embedded into OneNote instead of simply being links to the
outside world? Thanks for any insight.

Well, I think it's fixed. I put my computer to sleep this evening before
leaving for home. It appears to have frozen somewhere during the going to
sleep cycle, with the battery running out on the way home in this frozen
state. When I pressed the power button, the system started. When I opened
OneNote, I was able to open all of the attachments that I tried, even though
they were not on the hard drive. Odd.
