Embedding PDF documents ina word file

Does anyone know how to embed a PDF document into a word
file. The catch is that the file needs to be open as
opposed to displaying it as a logo

There is no filter that enables Word to insert a PDF file - that's largely
the point of PDF. You may be able to cut and paste the text, or you could
use SnagIt to print the PDF to a series of images, or you may be able to use
OCR software to convert the PDF to text, or with the full version of Acrobat
you may be able to save in an editable format. Much depends on the security
options set in the PDF file.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your help.

The reason that I'm trying to embed PDF's is because I
need to insert documents as appendices to large tenders.

When I do this as a word doc the appendix takes on the
styles of the rest of the document, which can cause a
formatting problem as most of the appendices I have to
insert have to be published in particular fonts and styles.

I have tried to insert section breaks to see if the styles
won't carry through, but had no luck.

Any other suggestions???

A style is a document is a style. Every unique paragraph type should have
its own style. A simple method would be to create a set of paragraph styles
for your tenders that have unique style names and are not based on other
styles. These styles would then be unaffected by any documents you append,
and as the appended documents don't have the documents styles, they would be
unaffected by the tender styles.

If these documents are appendices, why not simply refer to them in the
tender and print the documents separately. Then they are completely
unconnected. Keep the files for a particular tender in a dedicated folder to
avoid confusion later.

That would be my suggestion as well. The alternative would be to save each
page of the appendix as a graphic and insert it as such, which would hugely
increase the file size.
