Embedding Word Doc into Excel Spreadsheet, error messages

I work for a large company that has not completely converted to Office 2007
yet, however I'm one of the early users. Thus I am saving all of my files to
97/03 versions in order to allow others to modify. Prior to upgrading to 07,
I was able to embed Word docs into my excel spreadhseets routinely. Now, I
keep getting error messages indicating that "an embedded object is created in
a newer version of Office" (even though I make sure that the Word Doc has
been saved as a 97/03 file). Sometimes it will allow me to go ahead and save
it, however the embedding is lost (the icon becomes just a pic with nothing
"behind" it when you click on it). Other times it stops me from saving
altogether. Any advice on how to solve this problem is greatly appreciated.

BTW, I'm embedding via Insert/Object/CreateFromFile with Display As Icon
checked, and I'm browsing to a file that was originally created in Word 03
software uploaded to a Sharepoint site, opened in 2007, then saved to my
hardrive as Word 97/03 document.

I have a similar problem when i try to imbed an Excel spreadsheet into a Word
document. In my case, all products are at the Office 2003 version. This
problem started appearing in the past month or so.
