Embeding fonts problem - Pub 2003

Nancy

I have my fonts embeded on my publication. However some had restrictions and
would not let me embed them. They either said Preview Only or May Not Embed.
When I reopened my app. it threw up a box which required me to not load those
fonts in order to continue working with my pubication. Now when I look at my
font list, the ones I had to not load are not listed at all. How do I get all
my fonts to show up in the list again, even the ones that had restrictions?
Even though I cannot embed them I want to be able to see what fonts are on my
publication.

Thanks so much!

Check to see if the fonts are still installed on your computer:
1: Do they show in MS Word?
2: Do they appear in the list of installed fonts in the
windows folder? If so, uninstall the font and reinstall.

It's me again. Fonts are programs that cause the image to
be presented to your monitor for viewing or to your printer
in a manner that the characters are rendered to paper. Font
programs are licensed free, by donation and for a fee. Some
font 'foundrys' never allow embedding their fonts, even
after you may have paid up to $95 for a single font. This
is one of those: http://www.emigre.com/fonts.php

Thanks for the info Chuck. That seems to be working. I understand about the
restrictions. Im in the process of getting permission on some of them for my
personal use as I paid for them. One thing that was confusing me is the
Wordart. It appears that you cannot imbed word art as none of my word art
fonts show up in the font list anywhere that I can see. Surely thats not the
case???

Nancy,

The short answer is Publisher does not embed (or try to embed) fonts used in
Word Art. WordArt is essential a separate entity from Publisher, a program
shared by most of the MS Office suite, and as such Publisher can identify
which fonts it uses.

I recommend to my customers that are not supplying me with a PostScript file
or a PDF that they make note of the fonts used in WordArt, along with fonts
not embedded by Publisher because of licensing restrictions or because they
are not True Type fonts. In most cases in North America the licensing for the
fonts allows you to supply them separately to a service bureau for the sole
purpose of outputting your job (in other words if I was doing a job for you I
can use the fonts for only printing film/plates/postscript file for your job
then I must delete them from my system). If a customer uses fonts I don’t
have and don’t supply (either separately or embedded in the file) I give them
the option of paying extra to have me purchase the font (as I’m not likely to
use it again if it’s a font I don’t have in my own library) or I have me
substitute it for a font from my library. I imagine most printers have the
similar policies.

I hope this helps your dilemma.

Also the dialogue box that comes up when you open a publication gives you
the option of using the embedded fonts or not using the embedded fonts and
using fonts on your system.
