enable anonymous access??

Hi,

Please could someone clear up for me once and for all
whether to have enable anonymous access selected in MSP
2003. Should the Web Sites folder(s) themselves have
anonymous access enabled? Should each virtual directory
have anonymous access enabled? My understanding is that
former would be 'No' and the latter 'Yes'. If it is not
as straight forward as this can someone help me figure
out under what circumstances should anonymous access be
enabled.
