Enclosed files becomes winmail.dat Outlook 2003

We are using Office 2003 (Outlook 2003) to send email. The problem is that
when you enclose a file (.xls, .doc or anything) the enclosed file is named
winmail.dat when it reaches the recipient and cannot be opened. This only
seems to happen when there are multiple recipients. The mail itself is
unformatted.

I know that one recipient is using Lotus Notes. I have tried to replicate
this by sending emails with enclosed files to myself using multiple accounts
I got but have not gotten this problem. I also tried it with HTML-formatting
but that didn't cause the problem either. Could the problem be related to
the software the recipient is using and then why does it work when it's only
sent to one person?

Try unchecking the box :"Always send messages in Microsoft Exchange
rich text format."

I delete all winmail.dat files and ask the Outlook sender to change
from Rich Text to Plain Text.
I opened a few and found nothing of use inside.
This will open them if there is anything of use inside.

A little more about them in the Eudora FAQ
